Wichard HR Snap Shackle with Clevis Pin Swivel
€100.48 – €189.72Price range: €100.48 through €189.72
The Wichard HR Snap Shackle with Clevis Pin Swivel is a premium high-strength snap shackle designed for demanding sailing and rigging applications. Its clevis pin swivel provides a secure fork-type connection while allowing the snap shackle to rotate freely, helping prevent unwanted twisting in the installation. Forged from HR 17-4 PH stainless steel, it also features a captive plunger pin for fast and practical release. Available from Cavo Yachting in 70mm (#2474) and 120mm (#2478) versions, with nautical Working Loads of 800kg and 2,400kg respectively.
High strength, free rotation and a practical clevis-pin connection – premium Wichard hardware for demanding sailing applications.
The Wichard HR Snap Shackle with Clevis Pin Swivel combines the quick-release function of a snap shackle with a swivelling clevis-pin connection.
This design provides two important functions in one component:
Secure Clevis Pin Connection + Free Swivel Rotation
The clevis pin provides a direct mechanical connection to compatible fittings, while the swivel allows the snap shackle to rotate freely.
Wichard manufactures the range from forged HR 17-4 PH stainless steel and equips it with a captive plunger pin that cannot become detached from the hook.
For Cavo Yachting, the product is available in two sizes:
70mm – Part #2474
120mm – Part #2478
Clevis Pin Swivel – Connection with Free Rotation
The key feature of this Wichard snap shackle is its clevis pin swivel.
Unlike a fixed-eye version, the swivel allows the snap shackle to:
Rotate Freely Around the Connection
This can be particularly useful in sailing rigging where the orientation of a line, sail or connected component changes during operation.
Allowing the hardware to rotate can help the connection follow changes in orientation rather than unnecessarily restricting rotational movement.
The clevis-pin end also provides a practical connection to compatible fittings, making this configuration highly versatile for sailing applications. Wichard specifically highlights the free rotation provided by the swivel eye.
HR – Forged 17-4 PH Stainless Steel
Both available versions are manufactured from:
HR Grade 17-4 PH Stainless Steel
with a:
Forged Construction
Wichard uses this high-resistance stainless-steel construction to achieve excellent Working and Breaking Loads while maintaining relatively compact dimensions.
This makes the product particularly suitable when mechanical strength and reliability are key requirements.
Captive Plunger Pin
A particularly practical feature is the:
Captive Plunger Pin
The release pin is retained within the snap shackle and cannot become detached from the hook.
This is a valuable feature aboard a yacht, where a small loose component could easily be dropped or lost during operation.
The result is:
Fast operation + fewer loose components + practical handling on deck
Easy Quick Release
The Wichard snap shackle is opened simply by:
Pulling the Plunger Pin
A lanyard can also be attached to the plunger pin, allowing the release system to be operated more conveniently depending on the installation.
This makes the product particularly useful when a connection needs to combine high load capacity with fast release.

These are Wichard’s published specifications for parts #2474 and #2478. Wichard specifies the stated Working Loads for nautical applications.
Wichard #2474 – 70mm
The 70mm #2474 is the smaller and significantly lighter option.
Length: 70mm
Working Load: 800kg
Breaking Load: 1,600kg
Weight: only 71g
Its clevis pin has a diameter of 6mm, while dimensions A, B and C are 16mm, 15mm and 12mm respectively.
At only 71 grams, it provides a nautical Working Load of 800kg, making it an excellent choice where compact dimensions and low weight are priorities.
Wichard #2478 – 120mm
For substantially higher loads, the 120mm #2478 steps up significantly in size and strength.
Length: 120mm
Working Load: 2,400kg
Breaking Load: 7,000kg
Weight: 417g
Its clevis pin diameter increases to 11mm, with A, B and C dimensions of 26mm, 27mm and 18mm respectively.
With a 2.4-tonne nautical Working Load and 7-tonne Breaking Load, this is a serious piece of high-load sailing hardware.
70mm or 120mm – Which One Should You Choose?
The correct model should be selected according to the dimensions of the connection and the actual loads involved.
| Choose | When You Need |
|---|---|
| 70mm – #2474 | Compact dimensions, low weight and loads up to the specified 800kg WL |
| 120mm – #2478 | Larger dimensions and significantly higher load capacity up to the specified 2,400kg WL |
The larger version should not be selected solely because it is stronger. The clevis pin diameter, connection dimensions and geometry of the complete installation also need to be compatible.
70mm – Compact & Lightweight
The #2474 weighs only:
71g
yet provides:
800kg Nautical Working Load
This gives the smaller version an excellent combination of low weight and useful load capacity.
Its 6mm clevis pin also makes it suitable for compatible smaller connection points where the much larger 11mm pin of the #2478 would not fit.
120mm – Built for Serious Loads
The #2478 is designed for significantly more demanding applications.
With:
2,400kg Working Load
7,000kg Breaking Load
11mm Clevis Pin
it provides substantially more load capacity than the 70mm model.
For applications requiring high-strength sailing hardware and a larger clevis connection, the #2478 provides the heavy-duty option.
Why Is the Swivel Important?
In many sailing applications, the connected components do not remain perfectly aligned at all times.
The swivel allows the snap shackle to rotate freely instead of locking the connection into a single rotational position. Wichard specifically identifies free rotation as a key benefit of these models.
This makes the clevis-pin swivel configuration particularly useful when both a fork-style attachment and rotational freedom are required.
