Description

Professional Respiratory Protection for Painting & Refinishing

The Etalon Polygard Half Mask Respirator A1P2 Set combines a reusable silicone half-face mask with replaceable filters for protection during suitable painting, sanding and workshop applications.

Its dual-filter configuration combines:

A1 filtration → Organic gases and vapors within the filter’s specified application range

P2 filtration → Airborne particles, dust and mist

This makes the set especially useful for professional surface preparation, refinishing and maintenance operations where the selected A1P2 protection class is appropriate according to the product Safety Data Sheet and workplace risk assessment.

Soft Silicone for Comfortable Use

The facepiece is manufactured from soft silicone, designed to provide comfortable contact with the face during extended working periods.

Compared with basic disposable masks, the reusable half-mask design offers:

  • Comfortable face contact
  • Reduced heat and perspiration
  • Adjustable fit
  • Replaceable filters
  • Reusable mask body
  • Professional protection for repeated workshop use

A comfortable respirator is particularly valuable during longer sanding, preparation and painting jobs.

Complete A1P2 Filter System

The set is supplied ready to configure with both gas/vapor and particulate filtration.

A1 Organic-Vapor Cartridges

The A1 cartridges are designed for protection against specified organic gases and vapors within their approved operating limits.

They are particularly relevant when working with compatible paints, solvents and coating products where an A-type filter is specified.

P2 Particulate Prefilters

The P2 prefilters provide filtration against airborne particles such as:

  • Sanding dust
  • Paint mist
  • Fine workshop particles
  • Certain aerosols

The P2 filters work together with the A1 cartridges to create the complete A1P2 configuration.

Complete Set – Ready for Professional Use

The Etalon Polygard A1P2 set includes:

  • 1 x Silicone Half-Face Respirator
  • 2 x A1 Organic-Vapor Cartridges
  • 2 x P2 Particulate Prefilters
  • 2 x Prefilter Retainers

The replaceable design means individual filtration components can be renewed when required instead of replacing the complete mask.

Ideal for Yacht & Boat Maintenance

Yacht maintenance can involve many operations that generate dust, particles, mist or chemical vapors.

Depending on the chemicals used and the workplace risk assessment, the Etalon Polygard can be useful for activities such as:

  • Surface preparation
  • Sanding
  • Primer preparation
  • Suitable painting operations
  • General refinishing
  • Workshop maintenance
  • GRP repair preparation
  • Yacht refit work
  • Boat maintenance

It provides a practical reusable respiratory-protection solution for professional maintenance kits and workshops.

Excellent for Sanding Operations

Sanding gelcoat, fillers, primers and coatings can generate significant airborne dust.

The P2 particulate prefilters help reduce inhalation exposure to suitable airborne particles when the respirator is correctly fitted and P2 protection is appropriate for the task.

Typical applications may include:

  • Filler sanding
  • Primer sanding
  • Paint preparation
  • GRP surface preparation
  • General workshop sanding

Dust should still be controlled at source with suitable extraction whenever possible.

Replaceable Filters & Cartridges

A major benefit of the Polygard system is that the filtration components are replaceable.

Etalon provides individual replacement components including:

  • ET/PL-A1 – A1 organic-vapor cartridges
  • ET/PL-P2 – P2 particulate prefilters
  • ET/PL-RT – Prefilter retainers

This allows the mask body to remain in service while worn or exhausted filtration components are replaced.

Reusable Half-Mask Design

Unlike a disposable mask, the Polygard silicone facepiece is designed for repeated use when correctly cleaned, inspected and maintained.

This makes it practical for:

  • Professional workshops
  • Yacht maintenance crews
  • Refit teams
  • Painters
  • Surface-preparation technicians
  • Regular maintenance operations

Filters and prefilters remain consumable components and must be replaced according to their condition, exposure and manufacturer instructions.

  • Useful for sanding and surface preparation
  • Ideal for professional workshops
  • Suitable for yacht and boat maintenance
  • Complete filter set included

How to Use

  1. Inspect the mask before every use.
  2. Check the silicone facepiece, straps, valves and filter connections for damage.
  3. Fit one A1 cartridge to each side of the respirator.
  4. Position the P2 prefilters correctly.
  5. Secure the prefilters using the supplied retainers.
  6. Place the mask over the nose and mouth.
  7. Adjust the head straps until the mask sits securely and comfortably.
  8. Perform the required seal check before entering the work area.
  9. Use only where the A1P2 protection class is appropriate for the identified hazard.
  10. Leave the contaminated area immediately if breathing becomes difficult, the respirator becomes damaged or you detect signs of breakthrough.
  11. Clean the reusable facepiece after use according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  12. Replace filters when required.

Correct Fit Is Essential

A respirator only works correctly when it forms an effective seal against the face.

Before use:

  • Adjust the straps correctly.
  • Perform a seal check.
  • Make sure nothing interferes with the sealing surface.
  • Inspect the facepiece for damage.

Facial hair, stubble or other objects between the silicone seal and the skin can significantly reduce respiratory protection.

Where a reliable face seal cannot be achieved, another suitable respiratory-protection system should be selected.

Important A1P2 Limitations

The designation A1P2 does not mean protection against every chemical or every painting process.

Respirator selection must consider:

  • Chemical composition
  • Vapor concentration
  • Particle concentration
  • Exposure duration
  • Ventilation
  • Oxygen level
  • Coating manufacturer’s instructions
  • Safety Data Sheet
  • Local workplace regulations

The mask must not be treated as universal protection against all gases or vapours.

Important Note for 2K & Isocyanate Paints

Some professional yacht coatings, particularly certain 2-component polyurethane systems, may contain or generate hazardous isocyanate exposure.

An A1P2 half-mask must not automatically be assumed to provide adequate protection for these products.

Always check the coating’s Safety Data Sheet and respiratory-protection requirements. Where specified, an air-supplied respirator or other higher-level respiratory system must be used.

Not for Oxygen-Deficient Atmospheres

Do not use an air-purifying half-mask respirator:

  • In oxygen-deficient spaces
  • In confined spaces where the atmosphere has not been assessed
  • Where contaminant identity is unknown
  • At immediately dangerous concentrations
  • Where the selected filter class is unsuitable

Marine tanks, enclosed compartments and other confined yacht spaces require specific atmospheric testing and confined-space procedures.

Filter Replacement

Filters do not last indefinitely.

Replacement frequency depends on factors including:

  • Contaminant type
  • Concentration
  • Humidity
  • Temperature
  • Breathing rate
  • Duration of use
  • Storage conditions

P2 prefilters should be replaced when dirty, damaged or when breathing resistance becomes excessive.

Gas and vapor cartridges should be managed according to an appropriate filter-change schedule and manufacturer instructions rather than relying solely on smell.
