Wichard Bow Shackle HR “Ω”
€56.86 – €628.48Price range: €56.86 through €628.48
The Wichard Bow Shackle HR “Ω” is a forged high-resistance stainless steel shackle designed for demanding yacht and marine applications where high loads and extra internal space are required.
Manufactured from HR 17-4 PH stainless steel, it offers outstanding working and breaking loads. According to Wichard, an HR shackle can provide up to 60% greater resistance than a comparable 316L stainless steel shackle. Its wide bow shape provides ample room and allows several lines or cables to be connected.
Available in 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 14 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm and 24 mm.
High-Resistance Bow Shackle for Yacht Rigging
The Wichard Bow Shackle HR “Ω” is designed for high-load applications where strength, reliability and additional internal clearance are important.
Its forged construction and characteristic wide bow make it particularly suitable for:
- Yacht and sailing rigging
- High-load attachment points
- Connecting ropes and cables
- Blocks and deck hardware
- Multiple-line connections
- Professional marine installations
- Applications requiring additional internal space
Wichard specifically recommends the HR bow shackle for applications requiring high loads and ample room, with the possibility of attaching several lines or cables.
Important: Wichard states that these shackles must not be used for mooring applications.
Forged HR 17-4 PH Stainless Steel
The shackle is manufactured from HR 17-4 PH stainless steel, providing significantly higher mechanical strength than conventional stainless steel shackles.
According to Wichard, HR shackles can be up to 60% stronger than shackles manufactured from 316L stainless steel, making them an excellent choice where high strength-to-size performance is required.
Wide Bow “Ω” Design
The wide “Ω” bow shape provides more internal space than a conventional D-shaped shackle.
This makes it especially useful when:
- Several ropes must share one connection
- Multiple cables need to be attached
- Large fittings require additional clearance
- More room is needed around the attachment point
The result is a versatile shackle for demanding sailing and yacht rigging installations.
Available Sizes & Load Capacities
Wichard specifies two different ratings:
Working Load (WL): for nautical applications
Working Load Limit (WLL): for industrial applications only.
For industrial applications, the breaking load is 5 times the WLL.
| Size | Wichard Ref. | Nautical Working Load | Industrial WLL | Breaking Load | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 mm | 11244 | 1,760 kg | 820 kg | 4,100 kg | 68 g |
| 10 mm | 11245 | 2,640 kg | 1,200 kg | 6,000 kg | 136 g |
| 12 mm | 11246 | 3,600 kg | 2,000 kg | 10,000 kg | 224 g |
| 14 mm | 11240 | 5,120 kg | 2,400 kg | 12,000 kg | 364 g |
| 16 mm | 11247 | 6,800 kg | 3,800 kg | 19,000 kg | 526 g |
| 20 mm | 11248 | 8,800 kg | 5,600 kg | 28,000 kg | 1.011 kg |
| 24 mm | 11249 | 12,800 kg | 7,000 kg | 35,000 kg | 1.706 kg |
All ratings above are taken from Wichard Marine’s official specifications for the HR bow shackle range.
