Description

Compact dimensions, forged 316L stainless steel and impressive load capacity – a small piece of Wichard marine hardware designed for reliable fastening on board.

The Wichard Safety Snap Hook is designed for sailors and boat owners looking for a practical stainless steel hook without unnecessary size or weight.

Its forged 316L stainless-steel construction provides the corrosion resistance required for marine environments, while its compact shape makes it easy to use in a wide variety of fastening applications aboard a boat.

Cavo Yachting offers two sizes:

35mm – Wichard #2479
50mm – Wichard #2480

The 35mm model weighs just 10g and provides an 80kg Working Load, while the 50mm version increases capacity to 200kg while weighing only 23g. Wichard specifies these Working Loads for nautical applications.

Forged 316L Stainless Steel

Both versions are manufactured from:

Forged 316L Stainless Steel

Material choice is especially important for hardware that will be used aboard a yacht.

316L stainless steel provides excellent resistance to corrosion, while the forged construction delivers the mechanical strength required for demanding marine conditions.

The result is a snap hook that combines:

  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • High mechanical strength
  • Compact dimensions
  • Low weight
  • Clean, modern design
  • Suitability for marine environments

Wichard specifically lists forged 316L stainless steel, high Working and Breaking Loads, and modern design among the main features of this patented snap-hook family.

Wichard #2479 – 35mm

The Wichard Safety Snap Hook #2479 is the smaller of the two available options.

Length: 35mm

Working Load: 80kg

Breaking Load: 150kg

Weight: only 10g

Its dimensions A and B are 6mm and 4mm respectively.

At only 35mm long and 10 grams, this model is an excellent choice for compact fastening applications where minimum dimensions and weight are important.

Despite its very small size, Wichard specifies a nautical Working Load of 80kg.

Wichard #2480 – 50mm

When you need more space and significantly higher load capacity, choose the Wichard #2480 50mm.

Length: 50mm

Working Load: 200kg

Breaking Load: 300kg

Weight: only 23g

Dimensions A and B increase to 8mm and 6mm respectively.

The 50mm version more than doubles the Working Load of the 35mm model while remaining extremely compact and lightweight.

With a 200kg nautical Working Load at only 23g, it provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio for suitable fastening applications aboard a boat.

35mm or 50mm – Which One Should You Choose?

The correct size depends on both the physical dimensions of your connection and the load involved.

ChooseWhen You Need
35mm – #2479Minimum size and weight, with a Working Load up to 80kg
50mm – #2480Larger dimensions and substantially higher Working Load up to 200kg

Do not select the model based only on its Working Load. The dimensions of the attachment point must also be compatible with the snap hook.

Compact Hardware for Fastening Applications On Board

Wichard describes both models as suitable for various fastening applications on board.

This versatility makes the Safety Snap Hook useful when you need a small, removable connection and the selected model’s dimensions and Working Load are appropriate.

Wichard’s broader snap-hook range is designed for multiple marine uses, including sailing and general fastening applications.

Excellent Strength-to-Weight Ratio

These small snap hooks provide impressive load capacities considering their weight.

35mm Version

10g weight → 80kg Working Load

50mm Version

23g weight → 200kg Working Load

This makes the range particularly attractive when you want to keep hardware compact and lightweight without using a generic hook with unknown load specifications.

With Wichard, you have clearly published nautical Working Load and Breaking Load figures for each model.

Modern & Functional Design

Wichard specifically highlights the modern design of its patented Safety Snap Hooks.

The smooth stainless-steel appearance makes them suitable for visible installations on sailing yachts and motor yachts, while their compact dimensions help keep the connection neat and unobtrusive.

This makes the product a practical combination of:

Function + Strength + Premium Stainless-Steel Finish

Working Load vs Breaking Load

It is important to distinguish between the two load figures.

35mm – #2479

Working Load: 80kg
Breaking Load: 150kg

50mm – #2480

Working Load: 200kg
Breaking Load: 300kg

Wichard specifies the Working Load (WL) for nautical applications. The Breaking Load represents the specified failure load and should not be considered the normal permissible operating load.

Always choose the appropriate model according to the Working Load, dimensions, direction of load and requirements of the complete connection.

Small Size, Genuine Marine Performance

The Wichard Safety Snap Hook is a simple piece of hardware, but that simplicity is exactly what makes it useful.

Instead of using an oversized hook for a small fastening application, you can choose a compact marine-grade solution with known manufacturer load specifications.

For the smallest and lightest installation, choose:

35mm #2479 – 80kg WL – 10g

When you need more connection space and higher strength:

50mm #2480 – 200kg WL – 23g

Both models are forged from 316L stainless steel and designed for various fastening applications aboard a boat.

Choose the appropriate Wichard Safety Snap Hook from Cavo Yachting when you need a compact, lightweight and corrosion-resistant stainless steel hook with clearly specified nautical load ratings.
