Wichard Self Locking Bow Shackle Ω with Allen Head Pin

Price range: €29.50 through €71.42

The Wichard Self-Locking Bow Shackle Ω with Allen Head Pin combines the generous internal space of a Bow / Ω shackle with a compact recessed Allen pin that does not protrude from the shackle body. This design reduces the risk of snagging on sails, ropes or surrounding equipment, while the self-locking system helps prevent accidental loosening caused by vibration. Forged from 316L stainless steel, it is available in 8mm (#1344), 10mm (#1345) and 12mm (#1346), with nautical Working Loads from 960kg to 2,080kg and Breaking Loads up to 6,000kg. Wichard recommends it for chain-to-anchor connections, halyards, installations with limited clearance and applications requiring ample internal room.

Description

More room inside, less protrusion outside – a premium Wichard Bow Shackle combining an Ω-shaped body, recessed Allen pin and self-locking security.

The Wichard Self-Locking Allen Head Pin Bow Shackle is designed for sailing and marine applications where you need more internal connection space without an unnecessarily protruding pin head.

Its wide Bow / Ω geometry provides more room than a conventional D shackle, while the recessed Allen head pin stays within the profile of the shackle body.

The result is a strong, compact and practical connection that is particularly useful close to sails, ropes and other marine hardware.

For Cavo Yachting, it is available in three sizes:

8mm – Wichard #1344
10mm – Wichard #1345
12mm – Wichard #1346

Bow / Ω Shape – More Internal Space

The Ω-shaped body is one of the main reasons to choose this model.

Compared with a narrower D shackle, the Bow design provides ample internal room for the connection. Wichard specifically recommends this model for applications where more space is required.

This makes it particularly useful when the geometry or dimensions of the connected components require a wider shackle.

Recessed Allen Head Pin – No Protruding Pin Head

One of the most important advantages of this Wichard shackle is its:

Recessed Allen / Hex Socket Pin

The head of the pin does not stick out from the shackle body. According to Wichard, this eliminates the risk of snagging associated with a protruding pin head.

This is particularly valuable in sailing applications where the shackle may be positioned close to:

  • Sails
  • Halyards
  • Ropes
  • Rigging
  • Other deck hardware

It also makes the overall installation cleaner and more compact.

Helps Protect the Sails

Wichard specifically recommends this Allen Head Pin Bow Shackle for use:

On Halyards

Because the head of the pin does not protrude, the design helps avoid damaging sails.

For applications where hardware operates very close to sailcloth, this is an important practical advantage over a conventional pin with a large external head.

Ideal for Chain-to-Anchor Connections

Wichard also identifies the product as:

Ideal to Link Chain and Anchor

This makes the shackle particularly relevant to the anchoring equipment category at Cavo Yachting.

The combination of a wide Bow body, recessed pin and high load capacity creates a compact connection for compatible chain and anchor setups.

The correct shackle size must always be selected according to the chain, anchor, dimensions, Working Load and requirements of the complete anchoring system.

Self-Locking Security

All three available sizes feature the Wichard Self-Locking system.

The design prevents the pin from becoming loose as a result of vibration, an important consideration aboard a yacht where hardware is continuously exposed to movement.

So this shackle combines three useful features in one component:

Bow Ω Shape + Recessed Allen Pin + Self-Locking Security

This combination differentiates it from a conventional stainless-steel Bow Shackle.

Forged 316L Stainless Steel

The Wichard Allen Head Pin Bow Shackle is manufactured from forged grade 316L stainless steel. Wichard also specifies CE marking and highlights its high Working and Breaking Loads.

For marine applications, this means a combination of:

High mechanical strength + corrosion resistance + premium forged construction

The product is also Made in France.

134510mm1,440kg4,300kg860kg133g
134612mm2,080kg6,000kg1,200kg222g

Wichard specifies Working Load (WL) for nautical applications, while WLL applies to industrial applications.

Wichard #1344 – 8mm

The 8mm #1344 is the lightest and most compact of the three available versions.

Nautical Working Load: 960kg

Breaking Load: 2,700kg

Industrial WLL: 540kg

Weight: only 67g

Despite weighing just 67 grams, it provides a substantial 960kg nautical Working Load and 2.7-tonne Breaking Load.

It is an excellent option when low weight, compact dimensions and additional Bow Shackle clearance are all important.

Wichard #1345 – 10mm

The 10mm #1345 increases load capacity significantly:

Nautical Working Load: 1,440kg

Breaking Load: 4,300kg

Industrial WLL: 860kg

Weight: 133g

This version offers a strong balance between dimensions and load capacity while retaining the same recessed Allen pin, Bow geometry and self-locking design.

Wichard #1346 – 12mm

For more demanding applications, the 12mm #1346 provides:

Nautical Working Load: 2,080kg

Breaking Load: 6,000kg

Industrial WLL: 1,200kg

Weight: 222g

With a nautical Working Load exceeding 2 tonnes and a Breaking Load of 6 tonnes, the #1346 is the strongest of the three Cavo Yachting variations.

Working Load vs Breaking Load

For marine use, these values should not be confused.

Working Load (WL) is specified by Wichard for nautical applications.

Working Load Limit (WLL) is specified for industrial applications only.

Breaking Load is the failure load and must not be treated as the normal operating load.

Wichard specifies an industrial safety factor of 5, meaning:

WLL = Breaking Load ÷ 5.

For yacht and anchoring applications, select the appropriate variation according to its nautical Working Load, physical dimensions and the requirements of the complete installation.

Allen Head Pin Bow Shackle or Standard Bow Shackle?

Both provide the useful wider geometry of a Bow / Ω Shackle.

The major advantage of the Allen Head Pin version is its cleaner external profile.

A conventional pin may have a head that protrudes outside the shackle. The Wichard Allen pin does not protrude from the shackle body, reducing snagging and making it especially useful where available space is limited or where the hardware operates close to sails and ropes.

If you need:

Wide Bow geometry + Compact pin + Self-locking security

this is the more specialised solution.
