The Wichard HR Bow Shackle Ω 10mm #11245 is a premium forged high-resistance stainless-steel shackle designed for demanding sailing, yacht and marine applications. Manufactured from HR 17-4 PH stainless steel, it delivers an impressive 2,640kg Working Load for nautical applications and 6,000kg Breaking Load, while weighing just 136g. Its wider Bow / Ω geometry provides additional internal room and allows several compatible lines or cables to be attached, making it an excellent solution when both high strength and versatile connection space are required.
In stock
Compact 10mm construction, only 136g in weight and an impressive 6,000kg Breaking Load.
The Wichard HR Bow Shackle Ω 10mm #11245 combines the exceptional mechanical strength of Wichard’s HR range with the versatility of a wider Bow / Ω profile.
Designed specifically for high-load applications, the #11245 is manufactured from forged HR 17-4 PH stainless steel. Its Bow shape creates more internal space than a conventional D shackle, making it particularly useful when additional room is needed or when several lines or cables need to be attached.
HR – High Resistance Stainless Steel
The HR designation stands for High Resistance.
Wichard manufactures the #11245 from 17-4 PH high-resistance stainless steel, combining this material with a forged construction to achieve outstanding mechanical performance.
According to Wichard, an HR shackle can be up to 60% more resistant than a comparable shackle manufactured from 316L stainless steel.
This gives the HR range an excellent strength-to-size ratio, an important advantage for demanding sailing and marine installations.
Forged for High Loads
The Wichard #11245 isn’t simply a shaped stainless-steel fitting. It is forged.
Wichard states that the forging process provides outstanding working and breaking loads, as well as fatigue and corrosion resistance.
For marine hardware expected to perform under demanding loads, this combination of material and manufacturing process is a major reason to choose the HR range.
Bow / Ω Shape – More Room for Connections
The distinctive Bow / Ω geometry is one of the main advantages of the #11245.
Unlike a narrower D shackle, the curved Bow profile provides additional internal room.
Wichard specifically recommends the HR Bow Shackle:
- For applications requiring high loads
- When ample room is required
- When several lines or cables need to be attached
This makes it a particularly versatile connection point for suitable sailing and rigging applications.
10mm Diameter
The nominal diameter of this Wichard HR Bow Shackle is:
Ø10mm
Despite its compact dimensions, the #11245 delivers a nautical Working Load of 2,640kg and a Breaking Load of 6,000kg.
This impressive strength from a relatively compact shackle is exactly what makes the HR range attractive for performance-oriented marine hardware.
2,640kg Nautical Working Load
For nautical applications, Wichard specifies:
Working Load: 2,640kg
This is the relevant Working Load figure for marine use of the #11245.
For sailors and marine professionals, this provides a clear technical specification when selecting the correct hardware for high-load applications.
6,000kg Breaking Load
The Wichard HR Bow Shackle 10mm has an impressive:
Breaking Load: 6,000kg / 6 tonnes
A 6-tonne Breaking Load from such a compact stainless-steel fitting demonstrates the mechanical performance of Wichard’s forged HR construction.
The Breaking Load should never be confused with the Working Load. It is not the permissible everyday operating load.
Industrial WLL – 1,200kg
For appropriate industrial applications, Wichard specifies:
WLL: 1,200kg
Wichard states that WLL applies only to industrial applications and uses a safety factor of five relative to Breaking Load:
6,000kg ÷ 5 = 1,200kg WLL.
The three important load figures are therefore:
| Rating | Load |
|---|---|
| Working Load – Nautical Applications | 2,640kg |
| WLL – Industrial Applications | 1,200kg |
| Breaking Load | 6,000kg |
Only 136g
One of the strongest characteristics of the #11245 is its strength-to-weight ratio.
Weight: only 136g
At just 136g, the shackle provides a 2,640kg nautical Working Load and 6,000kg Breaking Load.
For performance sailing, racing and weight-conscious marine installations, this combination of low weight and high mechanical strength is particularly attractive.
Bow Shackle Ω or D Shackle?
The right choice depends on the application.
A D Shackle has a narrower geometry and provides a compact connection point.
A Bow / Ω Shackle has a wider, rounded body, providing more internal space.
The Wichard #11245 is specifically designed for situations where ample room is needed or several compatible lines or cables must be attached.
If connection space and versatility are important alongside high load capacity, the Bow / Ω design offers a significant advantage.
CE Marked
The Wichard #11245 carries CE marking. For industrial applications, Wichard specifies a 1,200kg WLL and a safety factor of 5 relative to its Breaking Load.
This gives professional users clearly defined load specifications for selecting the product according to the intended application.
Important – Not for Mooring
Despite its impressive 6,000kg Breaking Load, Wichard explicitly states:
Do not use the #11245 for mooring applications.
A high Breaking Load does not automatically mean that a shackle is suitable for every type of marine loading or installation.
